I've created a simple 3D Christmas Tree Design using FreeCAD. This is a simple model created using two 2D images which are joined at right-angles. A classic Christmas design. This is intended for Beaver Scouts (age 6 to 8) to cut out and make but I've also created a wooden model using a laser cutter. This helps to demonstrate some of the 2D design aspects of FreeCAD.

The general principle is to start with construction lines showing the outline of the tree. In my case a height of 150mm for the main part of the tree, and a total height of 190mm. I then created the width to be 120mm (2 x 60mm). With then a further construction line for the internal notches.
After creating the original sketch, I created a duplicate and then created a slot from the bottom of one and from the top of the other. The slot was 95mm long, and when laser cutting the width needs to be the width of the wood (perhaps 0.1mm wider for a less tight fit).
